Our favourite type of family holiday is going camping in France.
In 2013 we decided to take our three wonderful boys to the Vendee region of France and picked Le Clarys Plage campsite which is located near to the town of St Jean de Monts.
Le Clarys Plage was our campsite of choice due to several different reasons. Firstly we were looking for a campsite which was a little further south which would benefit from slightly warmer weather. Although we’ve been to warm places before, in a couple of the years previously we’d been to northern Brittany and it had been slightly cooler. The second reason we chose Le Clarys Plage was due to it’s swimming pool complex. The pool as you can see in our photos is excellent for children of all ages with several pools, a multitude of slides and a splash water park with a variety of water jets to keep the kids happy.
The last reason we chose Le Clarys Plage is because our family love the beach and located a stones throw from the campsite is Les Mouettes beach.
We decide to take the night ferry crossing with Brittany Ferries from Plymouth to Roscoff which was great as it meant that the kids went to sleep for the whole trip across the channel. When we all woke up in the morning the ferry was just about to dock and as soon as we landed we set off on the journey south towards the Vendee.
I was immediately pleased with our choice of campsite as soon as we arrived. The reception area as with many French campsites was clean, tidy and well organised and the pool complex could be seen from reception. What a cracking sight it was and the children couldn’t wait to dive right in.
As well as the slides the pool at Le Clarys Plage has a brilliant lazy river which winds it’s way around an excellent splash/water jet area. The main attraction in the splash area is this wonderful dragon boat which has a variety of jets, a bucket that drops water and a small slide.
The nearby beach of Les Mouettes was brilliant and is located a short walk down the road. It’s long, sandy and had plenty of area to spread out.
As with many families, we end up taking everything but the kitchen sink when we go to the beach. This can often be a problem when there’s a walk involved but luckily the beach near Le Clarys Plage has a FREE car park next to it with plenty of parking spaces.
We spent a fair amount of our time on the beach and made sure we build a lot of sandcastles.
One thing i would do different if we went to Le Clarys Plage again would be to take our bikes. There are lots of cycle tracks around the area and taking bikes would have been great for the kids.
Le Clarys Plage is a great place for a family holiday and we’d strongly recommend it to anyone who loves swimming pools and beaches alike.
